Iced Herbal Tea Recipes with Hedge Witch and Selkie Song

Herbal teas are more than a drink. They are a way to connect with the seasons, the plants that grow around us, and the quiet magic in daily rituals. In summer, when the sun hangs high and the air is full of movement, iced teas become spells in themselves. They are cooling, uplifting, and refreshing for both the body and the spirit.

Our Witchy Herbal Teas

At Selkie and Hare, our loose leaf blends are created in partnership with the herbalist at Healthcraft Herbs. Every plant in each recipe is chosen with care, grounded in traditional knowledge and Scottish folk magic. Here are two of our favourite ways to turn our Hedge Witch and Selkie Song blends into herbal iced teas perfect for a witchy summer.

Hedge Witch Iced Tea

A hedgerow brew for boundary keeping, heartful magic and quiet strength.

The Hedge Witch blend honours the space in between. In Scottish folk practice, the hedge is a liminal place. It is a crossing point between garden and the wild, life and death, known and unknown. This tea carries the spirit of that threshold.

Made with rosehip, elderflower, birch leaf, blackberry leaf, hawthorn berry and cleavers, this blend is steeped in boundary magic. Hawthorn is long associated with the Otherworld and is often used in protective rites. Elderflower is a plant of blessing and subtle enchantment, sometimes said to open doors to faerie places. Cleavers and birch are known in folk tradition for their cleansing and seasonal renewal. Blackberry and rosehip call up the richness and sweetness of the hedgerow harvest. Together, these herbs form a brew for grounding, clarity and quiet spiritual focus.

You will need:

  • 2 Teaspoons of Hedge Witch loose leaf tea
  • 500ml Boiled Water
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2-3 Teaspoons of Honey (to your taste!)
  • fresh elderflowers if in season
  • Ice to serve
  • Optional garnish such as a lemon slice or a sprig of foraged herb

How to make it

Place the tea into a heatproof jug or teapot and pour over the just boiled water. Add the fresh elderflowers if you have them. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain, then stir in the lemon juice and honey while still warm. Let it cool to room temperature before chilling in the fridge. Serve over ice with an optional garnish.

This tea is best sipped at the edge of a wild path or while reflecting in a quiet garden.

Selkie Song Iced Tea

A coastal brew for shapeshifters, dreamers and sea-hearted souls

Selkie Song is inspired by the seal folk of Scottish lore. These beings move between sea and shore, slipping between skins and stories. This tea is blended for emotional flow, intuition and soft strength.

The ingredients are chosen for their oceanic and soul-calming nature. Sea buckthorn berries are bright and solar in energy, often used in magical work for resilience and blessings. Rose petals are linked to dreamwork, love and emotional depth. Dulse, a rich red seaweed, brings in the presence of the sea and the abundance it offers. Apple adds sweetness and the energy of clear insight. Marshmallow leaf softens emotional edges and encourages gentle expression. Spearmint brings clarity and freshness, perfect for lifting the spirit.

You will need

  • 2 teaspoons of Selkie Song loose leaf tea
  • 400ml just boiled water
  • 50ml clear apple juice
  • Juice of a lemon wedge
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons honey
  • Chopped up crisp apple
  • Ice to serve

How to make

Place the tea into your jug or teapot and pour over the just boiled water. Cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes depending on how strong you like it. Strain, then stir in the lemon juice and honey while warm. Let it cool to room temperature before adding the apple juice. Chill and serve over ice with the fresh apple pieces mixed in.

This is a tea for sea rituals, shoreline meditations and long quiet evenings.

Whether you find yourself standing in the hedgerow or walking barefoot by the shore, these iced teas are ways to work with the season and the unseen. They bring together simple ingredients, deep-rooted folklore and a little magic in every glass.
